Kumbukani Nyirenda

Kumbukani Nyirenda did his PhD and post-doctoral studies at the University of Malawi and the University of Pretoria, respectively. His PhD is in Medicinal Chemistry and his field of expertise includes natural products, chemical characterization, and toxicology. He is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Malawi. He also serves as the vice chair of the university’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) where he provides oversight for the risk assessment and protection of human research participants during clinical trials.
Dr. Nyirenda has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Pharma Nutrition, Metabolomics, and Food Chemistry. His collaborative work has led to the publication “Potential pharmacokinetic interactions with concurrent use of herbal medicines and a ritonavir-boosted COVID-19 protease inhibitor in low and middle-income countries”. He has contributed to a book chapter in Medical Toxicology and authored a lead chapter in an Elsevier book titled: “Traditional Medicines and Natural Products as Preventive and Therapeutic Agents Against COVID-19”.
